I just read an article that discussed the fact that 2/3 of the apps in the iOS appstore have zero downloads. That got me thinking about the spam apps in our marketplace.
Insted of marketplaces being app hoarders, maybe there should be a policy to eradicate apps that have not been downloaded or updated in 6 months to a year. I know this goes against the current drive for numbers, but I'm sure this could be marketed.
Run a few ads that are parodies of the Hoarders tv show. Show people how other marketplaces keep stuff just to boost their numbers.
"In the appstore, we keep an extra 400,000 apps you will never download, just so you can search through them every time you search."
