Garbled Audio on Phone Calls?!

Suddenly I see that my IDOL 4S has a problem with the phone call audio. The speaker is fine, but when I listen to the call as a regular phone, the audio is either very low volume or is very garbled. I've power recycled twice and get no resolution. Any pointers appreciated.

If it were me with this situation ... I'd factory reset and start anew with no back up. If your model is from T-Mobile and factory reset doesn't rectify the problem, I'd go with WDRT and start anew. If your model is an unlocked one (not originally from T-Mobile) I wouldn't go the WDRT route.
If all of that fails, then I would assume your device is defective.

Did you just switch off and then on?

Tried Soft Reset? Hold the power button until it vibrates and reboots (about 10 seconds). First line of defense against glitches.

Yes I had just powered the thing off and on before. With a soft reset just now, I get the same results. It is a T-Mobile variant, so the next step is to do a wipe tonight. Thanks!
