The actual figure is "950 million" as opposed to a billion, but a "billion" will get more clicks. ;)

I had read several articles on this very thing. It seems that Google has known about it since 2014, but only recently made a patch available to OEM vendors. Those OEMs are in no hurry to update the handsets, and neither are the carriers.

Even with a solution, it is doubtful that current handsets will be fixed. Just another reason to get people to upgrade their phone, I suppose. Bad marketing though. If I were an Android user, that would be the last straw. I'd jump to iPhone, Blackberry, or Windows Phone in a heart beat. With all the hype about Windows 10, I'd probably get one of those handsets since security is being emphasized so well.

But, I'm not an Android user. As a WP user, I'm satisfied with my OS. ;)
