Iconical - free app for WP 7.8, 8: calendar appointments in wide tiles

Hi all,

Iconical is a free app for WP 7.8 / WP 8 that lets you display upcoming calendar appointments in one or more iconic wide tiles. Now you can minimize the standard calendar tile, and see your upcoming appointments even if they are more than a couple of days away

The minimalistic / metro look of the wide tiles can be customized with different tile colors (20 standard accent colors, plus carrier-specific colors), and more. No data services are needed to run this app, and it's easy on resources during tile updates (no text-as-image creation). Please see all features below.

Feel free to suggest additional features or changes. Download QR code and link can be found at the end of the post.

Features:

• Appointments: choose the time interval for appointment search (up to 1 year), filter by Subject keyword, and choose for how long to display all-day events.
• Accounts: select the calendar accounts to be used for appointment search, e.g. Outlook, Windows Live, Google.
• Text: set the tile Title, choose whether to show "all day" for all-day appointments, and control the visibility of the time when the live tile was last updated.
• Background Color: pick the tile background color from 20 standard accent colors, plus additional carrier-specific colors.
• Reminder Color: enable the reminder to have the tile background color change automatically as soon as the reminder interval has been reached.

All iconicals that are pinned to the Start screen are updated periodically, typically every 30 minutes.

Hi all,

An updated version (1.1.0) is now available for download. Thank you for all your feedback, much appreciated and keep it coming!

Here's a summary of what's new and improved:

• Date and time formats are now in accordance with the phone region settings (no app setting needed for 24-hr / 12-hr time format, or language specific date-time format).
• Show/hide day of the month on the live tile lower-right corner.
• Display day of the week instead of tile title.
• Show/hide appointment location on the live tile.
• Hide the next appointment if already shown in the Calendar app tile.
• Tile tap opens the list of related appointments; to enable this behavior for an existing tile, unpin and re-pin it.
• Improved appointment listing with duration, location.
• Windows Phone 8 only: create new appointments.

Very nice. See, if they applied the Lenses idea from the camera app to the calendar app, you could hook this in...especially if MSFT allowed us in the default calendar to change the default screen when you open the app from appointments to the calendar itself.

Gonna rock this only on my home screen for a while instead of the regular calendar. Love the design...keep up the good work...

Fully agree, even a "launcher" for the built-in Calendar app would be nice. WP8 introduced a new launcher for "new appointment" task, why not allow a 3rd-party app to launch the Calendar app.

One of the top suggestions for Iconical was to "open the WP Calendar app when tapping the live tile" :smile:

After about 3 weeks in the store, lots of downloads, good feedback and ratings, I thought it'd be a good idea to share some download stats.

Below are the top 10 markets / countries based on number of downloads. Together, the top 10 markets account for about 77 %.

5	United Kingdom	6.56%

7	Finland	4.30%
8	France	3.39%
9	Netherlands	3.09%
10	Czech Republic	2.46%

While I expected some of these markets to be in the top 10, I was a bit surprised to see Poland that close to the top. Also, France moved up quite a bit in the last week, pushing Canada off the list.
