Microsoft subsidiary Yammer has released open source SDKs for iOS and Windows Phone 8 to help developers add its social services to third-party enterprise apps.

Yammer is opening up its social features to third-party enterprise apps built for iOS phones and tablets and Windows Phone 8 devices ? but for Android for now.

The SDKs allow developers to add Yammer's OAuth 2-based authentication to an app. Once the app has the token, the SDK can be used read and write from the Yammer's API and integrate its social features into the app.

The mobile SDKs join Yammer's other SDKs for enterprise applications built on JavaScript, Ruby and Python, and help the platform remain relevant as enterprise organisations build out more mobile capabilities.

"Here at Yammer Engineering, we believe in moving quickly. This is evident in the Yammer Platform, where developers can rapidly build social enterprise apps. Apps that can scale to Fortune 500-sized companies. To speed up the mobile app development process, we are also releasing Open Source SDKs for iOS and Windows Phone 8," Yammer noted on its blog.

Microsoft acquired Yammer for $1.2bn in 2012 and its recent efforts to integrate Yammer have focussed on tighter integration with SharePoint and plans for single sign-on between Office 365 and Yammer.
