This is a discussion thread for Volume, a powerful sound management app for Windows Phone.

Volume is a simple but powerful app that can automatically manage the sound volume of your phone. You can easily configure it to best match your lifestyle and preferences.

Aside from the automated volume management, this app provides convenient shortcuts to control the sound volume manually. Those shortcuts can be pinned as live tiles for quick access from your home screen.

Volume can also integrate with your calendar and automatically turn off the sound during important meetings and other appointments. This feature is designed carefully so that it is really helpful. Your calendar probably contains many events, and you don't need your phone silent for all of them. Volume handles this nicely.

Another convenient feature of this app is its notification system. Volume can notify you whenever it changes the sound automatically, so that you always know what is happening. You can select different sound and voice notifications to really adjust it to your liking.

Even in this first version Volume is one really useful app. More features will be coming in next versions like location-based profiles, more notifications sounds and others.

We (Enless Soft), are the people behind Battery, the most successful battery management app for Windows Phone with nearly 2.5 million downloads. We'll do our best to bring you the same comfort with Volume by making it fully-featured, yet clean and simple to use.

Please note, that Volume only works on Windows Phone 8 devices.

    Thank you and take care.

    Looks a nice app!

Edit: However your permissions list is far too long for me to install:

    appointments
    contacts
    phone identity
    owner identity
    location services
    music library
    photos library
    media playback
    data services
    phone dialer
    Proximity
    movement and directional sensor
    web browser component

FFS, phone dialer!!! What do you want to do with that?

    Hello realwarder,

Thanks for mentioning this. You are absolutely right, the permissions list has too much things in it. There are things in there we do not actually use.

The reason is that we use some common code libraries that make use of some phone features somewhere in them. Even if we do not use all those features, they are automatically added to the list of required permissions because we use the library. We will fix this in the next version.

Here is some more info about the permissions and if/why are they used:

    • appointments - used to integrate with the phone calendar and make the phone silent during appointments
    • contacts - not used
    • phone identity - used by advertising
    • owner identity - used by advertising
    • location services - not used for now but we will use this when we make it possible to define volume levels based on your location
    • music library - not used
    • photos library - not used
    • media playback - not used
    • data services - used by advertising
    • phone dialer - used by advertising; don't worry it cannot be used to make calls from your phone, it can only be used to open a "call dialog" where you must tap a button to initiate the call.
    • Proximity - not used
    • movement and directional sensor - not used
    • web browser component - not sure, will have to check this one out
