i think this marketplace of microsoft sucks. not only is it difficult to navigate, but nearly everything costs $ unlike competitor's app stores with many free options. so, i would just be curious to see what people think are the most worthwhile apps out there, because i'm getting tired of paying $1.99 for something buggy that i use once and delete because its worthless. so far my favs are:

1. weatherbug
2. 7cave
3. netflix
4. flixter
5. imdb
6. wikipedia search

if we can, let's try not to return duplicates. i'll try and update this list...my list itself isn't very unique, but it's always great to find those unique apps that are hard-to-find for most, but are really great.

Just FYI, there are tons of good free apps I think. Are you noting the "sort" option in the top right, were you can limit it to free apps, to try?

Voice to text essentially transcribes whatever you are saying into the text message you are composing. Some people say it's for "lazy" people but I can see where the app would have a lot of convenient times to use it. They have them on most other OS's and I know some manufacturers like LG have the app preloaded on their phones.

As far as I know there isn't one for WP7 just yet other then the Chevron one in which you basically need an unlocked developer phone to use.
I am guessing someone will come out with one soon though...like anything else for the OS just takes a little patience and time.

Voice-to-Text is a hacked version of the LG app that works on other developer-unlocked devices. LMK if you want the .xap file.

more cool (IMO) apps:

Free Talk - Google Voice client, provides visual voice mail

Picasa Metro - excellent sol'n for Picasa albums

Amazon.com

DIRECTV - schedule DVR recordings

WP7 Search Center - search multiple content providers

Netflix - deserves more that one mention, are Android users still waiting for this?

Sad Trombone - never gets old, unlike fart apps

I completely agree on the Wp7 search center. I use that now more than any app.
