"live" barcode scanning?

Hey guys,

I'm curious to know if there are any scanner apps like ShopSavvy that allow live scanning rather than having to take a picture first. It can sometimes get kinda of difficult to get a decent picture of a barcode and I really miss the droid/iPhone live scanning ease of use.

I was at a store today and took a picture of a UPC and an older gentleman thought I was taking pictures of him. Kind of awkward! Live scanning and disable shutter sound would be awesome features. If only...

Lots of devs sitting on the edge of their seats waiting for access to the camera api.

In the meantime a subtle way to minimize the embarrassment of the camera shutter sound is to cough loudly, gag and wretch violently as you click the button. Of course that could have given the older gentleman a severe case of depression as he imagined your reaction was because of him. Hmm. I need to rethink this plan.

On my HD7, I disable the shutter sound by running the volume all the way down.
