Are you using a Lumia 900 and by chance did you recently install Keep Alive? I recently installed that and Whatsapp but have only been using keep alive. I've been experiencing restarts as well and thought it was due to keep alive

No I'm using a Lumia 710. Not got keep alive installed, just whatsapp. Not used it much to be honest, but it is making the phone believe a music track is playing in order to stop wi-fi from falling asleep which makes me think it may be the culprit when it comes to rebooting.

actually only these i pin to the start screen. Because i want to avoid scrolling too much on the start screen. When WP7.8/8 comes, i'll arrange it so that i don't have to scroll on the start screen at all.
