Since Windows phone is not going to have bbm (because of how Nokia dissed blackberry) WP should have free chats between wp phones. People who know wp users will be persuades to have a wp device. What do u guys think?

No. There are enough different cross-platform chat apps already. Nobody is going to pick a specific platform just for a chat app. He/she will just use the already available chat apps his/her friends use.

I hope you have proof that BBM isn't coming to WP?

Its rumoured that Skype will be baked in WP8.1. So there you go. We have Skype. Most likely there will be SMS support in the app as well

Windows messenger or MSN messenger was the equivalent to BBM, iMessage and Hangouts. It became Skype.

Ms need to advertise and show these features more instead of showing off the lumia 1020 that doesn't even have 1% marketshare in windowsphones in the UK

Microsoft should link their servers to all popular chat apps and have the messaging hub be THE place to chat. You'd just need to enter your various chat account details in your Microsoft account and everything would be linked server side.
    Brilliant...

No Microsoft needs to put a lot effort and work into messenger/skype to bring it back to what it once was BUT on multiple platform. but seeing the XBOX One is very tightly tied to skype I'd say it may be in the works.

AND a very agressive marketing push

They are probably waiting for the market share to hit 10% WW. I mean in my case I only personally know 3 people with WPs and we're not really close.

There's two things wrong with that:

    1. It's a beta which means only those with a Lumia can use it
    2. It will be a Nokia only app so people who have an HTC or Samsung WP won't be able to use it.

I understand the interest in messaging apps, and I'm just stating my personal needs here (which doesn't reflect that of the larger community), but I have no need for a stand alone messaging app. Myself and everyone whom I know all have unlimited text messages (SMS). I love how SMS is handled in WP, my phone itself is the best messaging app that I could ask for.

If Windows Phone is getting BBM then Apple may as well allow iMsg on WP & Android too
