Are camera aps just application interfaces or can they directly affect the quality of pictures.

In my experience, I've noticed that using two different camera apps to take the same photo creates some differences in the quality of the image (this is especially true when you enlarge the image).

For example, comparing ProShot with Lumia Camera, in the L1020 and keeping the settings the same (ISO 100, same shutter speed, same white balance, etc.), ProShot produces more "smoothened" details while Lumia Camera produces more "detailed" and sharp photos (at high magnification and full resolution). This makes the images from ProShot appear less grainy than those from the Lumia Camera.
