WPCentral Question

I'm in the market to dive into Windows Phone for the first time. What's the best Windows Phone you'd recommend???

High end, get the 1520 - straight up it's the best. The 1020, of you need that camera, but the specs, usability and longevity of the battery, 1520 rules!!!

For the low end, well I'd advocate the 625: Great overall specs. You only get 512gb ram but everything else is there.

I was considering going over the specs but you probably know them.

Only reason I'm not saying 930 for the top is because of the lack of the sd card.

Good luck!

Hey welcome to wpcentral :)
It depends on what you want in a smartphone. Do you like camera then go for lumia 1020 or if you want a phablet go for lumia 1520.

Here is my general list:

Mother of all cameras: Nokia Lumia 1020

Top-of-the-line Hardware: Nokia Lumia 1520, 930 (Int'l Icon for the most part), Icon, ATIV SE (those two VZW exclusive in the US)
Those two/three have the same specs, the 1520 is just much larger at 6-inches where the 930/Icon/ATIV SE is at a more manageable 5".
However there are smaller differences between the phones.

Solid Stalwart: Nokia Lumia 92x, Samsung ATIV S

I guess I can elaborate more if necessary.

6 months is still relatively new.

There's always going to be something new down the line, but I personally believe Nokia will fill out the rest of the midrange and lower-end lineup with third-generation devices before refreshing the 1520.
Even if something new comes out, the 1520 is no less powerful.

there isn't anything really solid rumor-wise regarding new flagships. The 930 is launching now and that's the new flagship along with the 1520.

If you're in The US and are on T-mobile or ATT, the 1520 would be the way to go, if big phones are ok with you. I used to have the original Galaxy Note before I switched to the 1520, so I'm used to big phones. And its awesome.

If you're on Verizon, the 930 would be your best bet.

The 920 is a great phone, my wife has one. She loves it, the size is perfect and its fast with plenty of internal storage. I know Verizon is doing a promo where you can get their version of the 920 (I think?), either the 925 or 928, can't remember. But its an amazing phone for sure.

It all depends on what you'd want in a phone, but it might be a good idea to wait for the new phones coming in the fall like the McLaren instead of getting a Windows phone sometime soon (in the next one or two months, for example) and then regretting having gotten a 1020 when a hypothetical new camera phone with even better specs comes out before the end of the year.

Just to re-enforce what's been said. 1020 if you want the best camera, but 1520 or Icon/930 for everything else, pick depending on your preferred size.

It depends on what you want. If you're looking for the most beefy phablet for work, I'm not really sure why you're looking at Windows Phone (maybe something work-specific?). There are many different variations of phones, from the HTC 8X with it's slim body and tall screen (720p instead of 768p), to the 1020 with its 41 MP camera.
