I was going to get the Lumia 925 today but in the store they told me that double core phones won't necessarily get the next windows phone versions. They said that some Nokia/Microsoft field representative had been in the store a week earlier and said like this.

Is there any info on the version after wp8.1? I don't want to get stranded like those who bought the Lumia 800.

Microsoft confirmed 36 month support cycle for windows phone 8.
Moreover there seems to be coming "something big" for wp8.1. So i don't think they will abandon wp8

We don't really know what MS has planned, but they definitely would be reluctant to dump existing phones because of the WP7 fiasco. There's no word on that stuff, but it is definitely possible.

The Galaxy Nexus didn't get official KitKat because TI got out of the mobile chip game, we could get some wildcard like that too.

Sounds like you were being mislead.
As stated by Sachinmeet MS promised future support in the 8.1 update cycle.
