No WiFi - No Update?

Someone please help me!
I have a Nokia Lumia 925, and im quite fond of it, when it works.
i have a huge problem though. I can't use WiFi? it just keep searching for wifi, and never finding anything all while the toggle on/off button is greyed out, so i cant even shut the searching off, unless i restart the phone. The issue is then that in order to update my phone to 8.1, it seems i can only download the new update using wifi, and seeing as though i have no wifi, i cant get the update. so is there any way to bypass the wifi? it wont download with Data (3G/4G).
i have had it at a repair shop multiple times, but they wont fix it, even though its covered by the garanty, because the screen is cracked a little (not connected with faulty wifi)
i've tried all Hard/soft reset and so on.

so, can anyone help me? anyone? im desperate here.. :'(

exactly, so stupid.. it even ask to download using data, only to throw it all away and say it can only be done with wifi.. stupid

Is this rule about no download over 100MB in America? Only asking as I people in America downloaded grand theft auto which is a lot bigger. I would personally exchange it for a new phone or use Nokia software recovery tool to reset the phone and redownload all the programmes

been there, done that.. wifi is still ****ed
