Lumina 720 stuck at gears screen during windows phone 8.1 GDR1 update

Could someone please help me! My lumia 720 is stuck at the gears screen and it hasn't even completed the 8.1 GDR1 update. It's been like that for almost an hour. I don't know what to do. Edit- I tried doing a soft reset (Power+Volume Down) and it comes back to the same screen and just stays there.

Try a hard reset....if it doesn't fix the issue.....you can go for official Nokia software recovery tool...and downgrade to the latest commercial version available fr your device...

Just pop out your sd card and once the gears screen starts showing progress, put the card back in.
