What is draining so much battery while they are in idle?

The phone should just receive sms and calls. My 1020 is in the pocket all day while i am at work 06:00 -> 17:00 (Using it for ~50 minutes wpcentral and other internetstuff) and i got around 36% when i am home.

can't understand why it's draining so much while idle! Old phones like Ericsson T20, Nokia 3310 etc lasted for days and they had also only sms and calls while "on"

Possible to shutdown everything except sms and calls while it's on idle?

When i bought the phone did it say "standby while 3G - 384h " 16 days?.. How? More like 14h

Those old phones didn't have high resolution displays, gps and background tasks from apps, social media integration, sunlight readability (extremely high brightness) and the massive camera that the 1020 has. Just think... there's a million different processes, sensors, etc. and only ONE battery. They don't call it a SMARTPHONE for nothing. :)

True, but all of those things should be "off" while the phone is on IDLE. Or there should be an option for it. I am trying Flight mode while not using the phone but it still drains a lot while idle.
Only option now is to shut it down while not using it.

Got any guide to make the battery last longer then 14h?

I went into battery saver and turned off background processing for most apps. I keep it for things like Evernote and my reminders app that need to update whether I'm using the phone or not, but there's no reason for most things to need to run in the background. This helped a lot, and so did changing my mail to sync every thirty minutes. I have location and data off usually, but even with moderate use I'm getting about 15 hours from the 635, which is easy more than it listed.

^What the pp said should help. Also, standby time is normally no data, just talking. So, turning all data off (cellular and wifi) should help. Calibrating your battery by charging it fully, unplugging it until its empty, then recharging it until full (and continuing this each time you need to recharge) should also help. Batteries also have a life cycle of how many charges it can take before needing a replacement. Following most of these should increase battery life.

One of the biggest battery drain while in idle... is background process, many apps are still working even if the phone is in idle, the reason is for notifications - alerts and that keeps certain apps to keep running.

Here is a guide to extend battery life.

My 1520 (YES I know it's not a 1020) loses about 0.5%/hr while idle. I have all my syncs set to hourly, I don't have a huge amount of apps installed and I'm picky about what background tasks are allowed to run.
