    In the Mail app, go for the three-dot menu at the bottom, then select Settings and deselect "Use light background for email."

    Just noticed that the actual emails are still light theme any way to change this?

    The emails are HTML format, and the ones you're receiving probably have white set as their background in HTML.

    You can do that by turning on high contrast in settings->ease of access.

    Then why does it turn black if you are in high contrast mode?
