Getting a Surface Pro 3 soon, but wanted to know somethings before I get it. I don't want to ruin the Surface Pros battery and want to make it last as long as possible.

    1. Does anyone know whether you have to charge the device for a certain amount of hours once you unbox it, or doesn't it matter when you put it on charge or take it off. Like when I first charge it can I charge it to like 50% whilst using it and then lets say want to go to another room and still charge it, can I take it off charge and resume charging in the other room without ruining the battery?

    2. That leads me on to my second question. Can you use the Surface Pro 3 whilst charging it? So lets say I know I'm going to be working on a certain document all day would I be able to keep it on charge whilst I'm using it without overcharging or ruining the battery at all?

    3. Do you have to charge the Surface to 100% in order to 'look after' the battery? If so does that mean that you need to let it (almost) completely die and then charge it?

    4. Final question... Does leaving the Surface on charge for a long period of time ruin the battery? So let's say I leave it on overnight to charge, will that ruin my battery?

I know that's a lot of questions, I just don't wan to ruin it since it's not cheap and you can't manually replace the insides. I'm sure a lot of other people want to know too.

    Thanks in advance :)

Charge as you need and dont worry, battery comes partially precharged and while it's probably good to put it charging cos you will be installing updates and apps and using it a lot cos it's new and fancy so you don't want to run out of juice. But you don't need to worry about "letting it charge to 100% without using it" or anything else. You can use it while charging. No need for old "tricks" anymore, batteries have come a long way since. My Surface RT has been always on the charger when idle when at home and almost two years later I still get the same 10h battery life out of it.

Batteries nowadays don't really "count" the times they've been charger, it's more about how many full cycles you put it through. So charging a modern device 4 times for 25% is the same as charging it for 100% once, except letting batteries actually run completely dry is the most harm you can do to them these days. It is however good to note though that it might take several full cycles before it calibrates and reaches it's full potential correctly and for achieving this it might be beneficial to let it run to at least almost dry, however it is not necessary and at least don't leave it completely dry for a long period of time.
