You don't require any Antivirus for Windows Phone. Unlike Android phones, WP is very secure so there is nothing to worry.

Long story short, Windows Phones don't suffer from massive software vulnerabilities, leading to the lack of need for antivirus software.

Not if the apps contain ads that go directly to Internet Explorer.

In other words, the best antivirus is the latest update.

There is no antivirus available for WP nor is it necessary. WP is very secure with every app sandboxed. A virus simply wouldn't run.

The most any site could try is to throw up some scary looking popup and hope to convince you that you do have a virus!!!!!

I think the reason why people ask, is because Windows on pc is extremely susceptible to viruses - If no antivirus is installed.

Because these messages are popups or in other words spam.

Its spyware disguised as a senseless add. Windows phone don't get viruses because of their intricate programing. You never need to worry as windows phone is pretty much bullet proof in so far as viral attacks. iOS is the same too Apple phones are very safe virus wise too its Android that are the main hitters as their OS is so open to threats. That's why Avast antivirus is available for Android phones and not Windows Phone.
