Can anyone help me decide if a WP8 is the phone for me?

A potential new WP8 user with a few questions.

Firstly, i'm no troll - this is for real. I am looking at a new lumia 930 to replace my blackberry z10. I am already in the 5% bracket, as I have no intention of getting either an apple or android device. My previous 3 phones are z10, nokia 808 and nokia n8.

I am a heavy power user - I run python on the phone (mainly for the web server), use the shell prompt (low level access), and regularly have multiple servers/apps running simulateously. I basically use my phone as a micro laptop.

My daughter got a nokia 520 the other day, and do you know what - i actually liked it. Yes it was slow and the hardware is a bit low spec, but I didn't suffer the normal revulsion I get with other brands. So, my question is:

Will say a lumia 930 (or a better phone if available) meet my quite unusual usage habbits (shell/low level access/micro laptop). I had the 808, so I appreciate the 930s camera as well.

I have actually ordered a blackberry passport - although they are hideously behind in shipping. I might not see it for months. I am willing to cancel and go wp if it meets my needs. About the same price (outright). I realise this is the wp forum, so I am asking the converted, but is wp for me?

Thanks for your answers.

PS I am a low level firmware developer, so I ask a lot from the phone/os. I am happy to use developer mode if there is such a beast on wp.

Interesting to see if this type of stuff is available on Windows Phone, last I heard very few OSes could do this.

Yeah there are apps that can run Python scripts and other things such as Shell/cmd prompts. Now I don't know what your preferences are when it comes to phone sizes but I would go with a 1520 instead of a 930. This is because of the beautiful extra screen real-estate you get which complements the things you are going to do and also the battery life will be much better in this scenario as well. End of the day either phone will do the job just depends on your preferences.

^^^ go for the 1520. It has an sd card slot, more screen real estate, and is overall better than the 930.

ECHO that sentiment (Lumia 1520), plus it seems to be the most future proof of the currently available flagship Windows phones. With the possibility of dual windows with Windows 10, the larger display will come in handy.

There are shell emulators, but I've not needed to use any that ran python, or how it would access or store scripts. That is probably something you should research in the store and see what commenters are saying. All the apps should run on the phone you have access to now, so you should be able to test.
