How to write phone number extension on People app?

Say, Mr. John office number is xxx xxxx and his extension is yyy, how do I put that on my contact so that my phone will call the number xxx xxxx and yyy will appear on my screen so that I can manually input it without remembering them?

what I do is to put the extension # at the end of the phone # 555-555-555 (123)
it will show when call is made ,

ok I just tried that and I couldn't put the () in, edit you contact and just add another phone # and just put in the extension #. xxx , and save

Sorry I didn't understand about your explanation, my English isn't good. Could you please give me a screenshot of when you edit your contact to include extension, and how it will look like?

I think I had it on my earlier phone, so when imported the contacts it came. You can edit on PC and sync it.
Alternately, you can type the entire phone number and extension with 'p' in any other field (e.g. mail etc.) and copy paste it to phone number.
OR you can use comma (,) instead of 'p'. Tap and Hold . (dot) on the phone dialer, it will pop out extra symbol where you can find comma.
so 12345678 p9999 OR 12345678 ,9999 represent the same. They will dial to extension directly.
