My Lumia 1020 is heating-up fast, after Windows 8.1 installation, why this happens?

Firstly, emails can now come as they arrive. Secondly, apps can run in the background much more freely so use the battery sense app to disable the background process for each app. Lastly, disable certain features like Bluetooth, NFC and GPS(location services) when you aren't using them. Disable mobile data if you are using wifi and disable wifi when you need to use mobile data

The update program sometimes leaves processes stuck after it finishes. Have you tried a soft reset (hold power switch and volume down until phone reboots) yet? Also, check your apps to see if any are still reinstalling. Until they all finish, it will stay pretty busy, and once they do, you may need another soft reset. You should probably also start each app and make sure all the settings are correct, as sometimes apps with messed up settings can be a problem.
