    After doing a phone update, I have a large & small white cog, frozen on my screen for the last 5 hours
    This happened to me on my L521 (very first smartphone) I didn't know what to do so I just let it go until the battery died. I plugged in the charger and within a couple of minutes the phone came on and it carried on to completion.

    Your device has bricked during the update. You need to download Nokia software update for retail and select the option "my device won't start" or something like this.

    Shut the phone off then plug it into the charger to restart the update process.
    It may continue on the second try.
