Windows Central Question

It ran out of battery so when I plug it into the charger it just shows the "charger" icon and won't actually boot the phone on...and I can't boot the phone on with the power button since it is broken. Is there any other option I can do to turn it on?

If you ran your battery down to zero... It will take awhile, but the phone will boot. Windows Phones boot when plugged in, so far as I know that is universal. However, flat battery will delay that until the chip in the battery fully wakes.

You may benefit from the shim trick.

Very good info about that shim trick. It does take a while to start booting up (it waits until 5-10% if I recall correctly) before it kicks the phone over.
Not ALL Windows phones will boot up with power. Some HTC WP devices (for example the Sprint HTC 8XT) will allow power-off charge.
