Why is my phone difficult to turn on or off?

Difficult to turn phone on or off

I have a HTC 8S windows phone and the on / off button operates intermittently and I have to press it hard four or five times before the phone turns on or off.

My local mobile phone repair shop has tried to order a button and power lead to internally replace the existing to see if that helps but cannot obtain the part.

What do you suggest is the problem and solution please.

I imagine the problem is indeed a faulty power button and the solution is to replace it. Replacement parts are available from eBay, for example, and if you're confident, you might even attempt the repair yourself.
