Is there an app to let me text on my PC via lumia 635?

I am test driving a lumia 635 and like it, but I need and can't find an app like moto connect or Mightytext on android. These are apps that let me receive all incoming texts on my PC, with notifications, and allow me to text back. This is great at work when I'm stuck at my PC and can just leave my phone on my desk charging while I use a normal keyboard to do the odd text. Had this feature on my moto x and nexus 5, and if I can't find a similar app for this WP then it will have to go back.

Anybody have an app to recommend?

Unfortunately there isn't anything like that. And unless Microsoft releases the required API for it, then it won't be possible.

You could always use the ' project my screen' function to output your phones screen to your PC.

While this is true, it won't allow him to actually use his PC to reply to these texts or interact with his device in any other way. No matter the app or feature you use, he will always end up grabbing his device and perform at least some steps directly on it, instead of being able to fully remotely control it.
