Nokia Lumia 928 SIM card problems

When I try to send a text message on my Nokia Lumia 928 is says: "Your SIM card is missing or damaged" and does not send the message. It also will not make calls and when I try it gives a message "SIM error." I examined the card and it doesn't seem to be damaged. I didn't drop my phone or anything to cause damage.
Why does it give this message?
How can I fix this problem?
Will everything on my phone be lost if it actually is damaged?

Re: Nokia Lumia 928 SIM card problems

SIM cards can go bad... SIM Trays can go bad.

Test this by trying another SIM in your Phone... Does it work? Tray is good. Try your SIM in another Phone. Does it get seen? SIM is good.

You could ask your provider for a new SIM also.

Occasionally, this could be a software issue. Try a Soft Reset (you won't loose data). Hold the Volume Down + Power buttons until the phone vibrates and reboots (about ten seconds).

Otherwise, make a backup and then reset with Lumia Software Recovery Tool as described here: FAQ - How can I recover/reset/restore my phone software? - Microsoft - USA
