    If you had the backup options set, then yes. When you use the same Microsoft Account on a replacement Windows Phone then your contacts and messages should come back.

    To check your contacts, just log into http://people.live.com and they should be there.

    The cloud is increasingly powerful, but only for those who use it.

    If all your backup options are turned on you can recover a lot of stuff. Then use restore during the next set up.

    All your OneDrive stored documents and photos
    All your Apps and some may even be set by the developer(s) to restore data as well (not anywhere near 100%)
    Your Start Screen layout
    SMS text messages
    Emails
    When you restore your Email Accounts to your phone you get back your Contacts, Calendar, Emails

    This is a perfect time to change all your passwords as well.
