Mail will sync but calendar wont?

Just got a Lumia 640, added my gmail account very quickly and it syncs both ways instantly, but the calendar associated with my gmail account is only syncing one way - if I add something to it using the phone it doesnt appear on the calendar when I look at it on my laptop... I need to be able to put in appointments on my phone and have them sync really... Any ideas why its working for email but not calendar - its set to sync both every 2 hours in settings, email seems to have a sync now prompt but calendar doesnt? Thanks in advance

To ensure the Calendar entry updates everywhere... Make the entry and then go to Settings > email + accounts > hold down on the Gmail Account name > tap sync from the popup menu.

You also may want to use Settings > email + accounts > tap the Gmail Account name > change sync preference to based on usage and the phone will learn your habits faster.
