I am concerned that upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 10 will leave me to purchase upgrades to my other software that run on Windows 7. Is Windows 10 OS back compatible with previous software, or now I have to upgrade to be compatible with Windows 10?

    Yes...

If something does not run when first trying > right click the .exe or shortcut > Properties > Compatibility tab > select Compatibility Mode for the last known version it worked under (may be 7, may be 8.1) > for good measure, tick the box to enable "Run as admin"
