Problem with earphones Nokia 635, why does only one side work?

Earphones only work one side with Lumia 935, how do I fix this?

Only one side earphone works can't see what is wrong. Nothing wrong with the ear phones themselves, they work fine on other equipment

Try to stick the plug deeper or less deep in the "connector" and see if this helps.

How many little plastic bands are on the shaft of the plug? Two or three?

Three makes the headset compatible with iOS and is their proprietary set up. It does not always play nicely with non iOS devices. The bands divide the connector into regions that match the female socket on the device - or not!!!

Make sure the headset only has two bands.

Otherwise make sure it plugs in all the way and inspect the port with a flashlight and magnifying glass to make sure no debris is in there.
