Why is my volume buttons either not working or working on its own?

So, I've had my Nokia Lumia 928 for a while now, and before it was my moms, so its a few years old. But today, the volume buttons decided to stop working or change the volume on its own and the volume stays without me even touching it. Also when I turn it off I get a lightning bolt and gear screen and have to hard reset it to turn it on (also randomly started today) Any ideas on how to fix this?

Sounds like it needs to be examined by a qualified technician.

Volume key sounds like it is sticking, which can happen to keys at times with prolonged usage, or with a sticky substance working it's way inside. Sodas have been known to cause a lot of issues in that department.

With the other symptoms you'd mention, I'd wager something has happened to this phone to cause some internal problems. Not going to be a quick fix or cheap one. It needs new parts I'm afraid.
