The reason I asked is because in my experience, what worked for one PC didn't necessarily work for the other, miffed as to why that is, I'd be inclined to try which ever method you didn't go with unless of course, you've already given both a whirl... Soldier on
I reserved via "Get Windows 10" app but the installation didn't work. I got several failed attempts in my update history the 29th of August. I typed wuauclt.exe /updatenow into the command prompt and then it worked.

The upgrade then went smooth but several things didn't work as they should:
When I pinned apps to the start menu or task bar they only appeared after I restarted the laptop.
Cortana was a disaster
Office programs started up very slow especially excel
I couldn't access the settings of Windows Defender
There were a few more issues like that.
I then did a refresh of the PC via the settings menu and got into the trouble I posted about here. Still I am glad that I did the refresh because the issues I had after the update are solved.
