Windows Lumia 521 Not Recognizing Charger?

I've had my Lumia for just over a year now and love it dearly (I've even named him Zander). Everything was doing fine until about two months ago when the battery started to drain much more rapidly. Then, the charger began acting up. I plug in the phone and the icon shows up to say it's charging, but it disappears almost immediately. Then, it comes back a moment later to say it's charging, but goes away again. I have to wiggle the cord constantly until I get it to stay charging. Not only that, but it will continually say I have not plugged it in and I have to do twice the adjusting if/when the battery drains entirely. Often times it takes over half an hour for it to load back up. My cellphone carrier told me it was a battery issue or an issue with the charger, so I purchased both a new battery *and* new charger, but no dice. The new cord doesn't work at all when I plug it in. Is it the port itself? Should I take it to get fixed?
