Will I lose my apps, data and text messages if I update my Lumia 830 (ATT Unlocked) to Windows 10 Mobile (latest build) using the Windows Insider Program? Basically, I am asking if the update/upgrade similar to update when upgrade from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10?

I have read that the latest build is the smoothest yet.

Your data and I think your apps will be erased unless the developers of those apps allowed cloud back up. I'm not too sure about text messages though I know they can be backed up to the cloud.

If you upgrade, you will not lose anything. However, given its nature, you run the real risk of having to erase the phone.

Apps will remain as they are. Text messages sync/backup to the cloud, so they'll be safe. This is after the upgrade.
