Why does windows to update stuck at "checking for updates" and "preparing for installation" ?

Why does windows to update stuck at "checking for updates" and "preparing for installation" ?

At first I completed the download and than waited for around 3 hours for "preparing for installation" and than when i again started the updating after the restart it is showing "checking for update" from past an hour.

What should i do?

The OS is probably missing some updates during the upgrade process. Be patient and let the process work on its own.
