I went to an amusement park today, and walked a lot. My band recorded 20,000 steps and 10 miles, but my calories are at 1800, which is unusual. I didn't use the exercise modes at all today, whereas I usually jog 3-5 miles (and take 15,000 steps total) daily using the run mode and burn 2300 calories.

Why is it not measuring calories accurately when I don't use the exercise modes? Should I always have it in "run" mode if I want accurate calorie estimates while I am moving around?

I'm not an expert, but jogging 3-5 miles burns up more calories than walking the same distance.

Additionally, pace and sustained movement play into it heavily.

Is it not possible the 1800 calories is indeed accurate?

I am the original poster. No, it cannot be accurate. I am 6ft tall and 150 lbs. My BMR is 1600 calories. Walking 10 miles should burn at least 800 calories (most estimates say 100 cals burned per mile, but I am using 80 cals per mile to be conservative). That means I should burn 2400 calories today, at least. Yes, jogging burns more calories than walking, but walking 10 miles definitely burns more than jogging 5 miles.
