Why doesn't keystroke register after I installed Win10?

I installed Win10 on my HP laptop (Pavilion dv7) that was running Win7 without any problems. After the install, I cannot consistently type in a URL, double tap doesn't work, I must position cursor over the target and use the enter key and hope that it works. On some screens, I can hover on a target and see a color change or other indication that I have triggered a sensor but cannot click it or enter text. Doubt that I will even be able to uninstall! Any suggestions? I an a nurse not a geek so please "dumb" it down.
