Are Modern Apps/Metro Apps exactly the same in Tablet Mode as Desktop Mode?

I'm really confused and I'm trying to work out why I would want to use tablet mode, apart from the minimize, maximize and "x" buttons found in desktop mode. Aren't the modern apps that you can launch straight from the start menu in desktop mode, exactly the same as the ones in tablet mode?

yes .. but in tablet mode they open in full screen

It's exactly the same, and you would want to use tablet mode when you're using a tablet.

You see most tablet are 8"-10", and having all program to automatically expand to full screen to utilize that small screen you have, able to close app with a simple swipe down, easily teeter app for multitasking in a small screen, tablet mode is a great convenience.
