I need a new motherboard so I can support more ram on my computer but I don't have the money for a new copy of Windows, I want to know if there is a way to keep it.

A new Motherboard will affect the Authentication.

Install the board and boot up. Follow the activation prompts. You will likely have to phone in a new activation and get a new key.

Make sure you have your old key on hand and explain to the Microsoft Rep about a motherboard swap.

This utility will read your old key if you lost it or it was OEM embedded on the old motherboard. http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/product_cd_key_viewer.html
