OK so I mainly use my PC for work but the old Dell had was beginning to groan under it's workload and the hard drive was nearly full. As it was about 5 year old I decided to replace it with something faster.

    The result was I bought a 64bit, AMD FX (tm)-4130 quad-core processor 3.80GHz, with 16GB of ram and 2 x 250GB Samsung SSD's. It's built on a GA-78LMT-USB3 Gigabyte motherboard

This seemed like overkill and I was anticipating it would fly through my stuff, mainly Excel, Webplus X8 and a bit of word processing all run on Windows 7 professional, but it actually seems to be slower than the old Dell.

I've tried everything I can find, cleared clutter out, reduced the size of my outlook file, been through numerous "do these 10 things to speed up your computer"! lists but it just seems very slow and sometimes hangs with a big Excel spreadsheet.

Before I finally just bin the thing and buy another Dell, has anyone got any ideas of what it might be. I suspect it's got to be something radical simply because anything I do doesn't seem to help?

The base "Windows Experience" scores are processor:7.2, RAM:7.2, graphics:6.6, primary hard disk:6.4 if that helps?

Thank you for your help in this

    Hi Gary,

There are a lot of thing that can affect the speed of your PC. Simply putting fast components together into a case doesn't mean that the PC will be fast. Make sure that you have the latest version of all of your critical drivers. Get your latest chipset drivers, graphics card drivers, ensure that your BIOS has the latest firmware, and check your settings there.

If your BIOS settings aren't set to the correct values, you can be underclocking your processor or your RAM.
