How can I reset a Windows Phone that I bought from a friend?

i bought a windows phone from a friend who is no longer around to reset it for me how can i go about fixing this issue in order to use the phone?

If the phone has reset protection where you need their Microsoft Account credentials in order to use it, then there is nothing you can do.

They should have disabled reset protection at the time of the sale if the sale was legit.
