I can't receive emails since logging into Microsoft account

My primary email address is the same as my Microsoft account log-in. All the settings are correct, if I change just the email address to my wife's, it works perfectly ( we are both on the same BT account ). But as soon as I logged on to Microsoft account to get my contacts, I get error message 'Not up to date' ?

You have to go to email+accounts and then tap the email to try to make it update. If you have an error, that is the reason why.
