Why are my word documents being changed to PDF s?

I am finding some of my documents converted to PDF files, and I am unable to edit them. I have been careful to save them as word documents as well

Have you got any PDF addons installed, those could be configured to save as PDF automatically regardless of the format you choose.

Some PDF programs will "print" to PDF. Are you printing from word or saving?
