Ok I am confused. On 950xl, went from Official Build .168 to Insider Release Preview. Updated as this insider and build ia now .164. A lower build #?

yes could have happened, release preview is maintained specially for devices which were not shipped with win 10 pre installed.

fast ring is maintained only for the devices which were shipped with win 10 lumia 950/xl , 650, 550 .

if you in case switched rings you might have been pushed down to .164 which is the latest build for release and slow ring
