That message had a phone number to call, which foolishly I did. However I called the number from a landline phone, not my cell. Internet has conflicting messages about this virus ... some say it's a real thing, others say it's a scam to make you call that number. Any advice?

If it has you call a number to fix it its usually a scam. Phones aren't THAT helpful.

if you have a windows phone, you're safe from viruses, No one will tell you that your phone has a virus. And calling from the landline was a neat idea
