USB Flash drives are not large enough to hold a system image. I suppose if you have a small amount of disk usage and a big flash drive you could try to format it to ntfs. Your best bet is to get an external hard drive to back up too.

still usb plenty big so how do I create system image on usb?
Format it as an ntfs drive. (Open File Explorer, Go to "This PC", right click on your flash drive, click format, click restore device defaults FIRST, then under file system set it to NTFS, check quick format, click start, wait for it to finish) Then open backup and restore and attempt to make an image again. If you are not able too I would not be surprised as I am not sure if flash drives are able to be backed up too.
