Does the phone automatically switch the voltage difference from u.s. To European voltage?

Yes, most phones and phone charger adapters are universal. Best to check before you leave to see if you charger is capable for handling 110-240V.

check your phone charger - if it says 110-240V 50/60Hz, then it can work in Europe and anywhere else in the world

You will need to get a plug adaptor for the different socket types found in Europe
