Can they hear you on speaker phone? If so, I've had two 920's that did this too. I suspect it's a problem with the noise cancellation processing and the ambient noise microphone on the top of the phone (on the 920 anyway). It sucks, as you can no longer hold a private conversation without a headset.

try a soft reset
Can the person hear you if you use another calling service like skype or whatsapp?
