Windows 8.1 Live Account Email Address

Running Win 8.1. Recent divorce. Previous login & email was under married name. Took back maiden name & created new email with new name. First tried to set up new MS account with new name & email & worked couldn't sync or transfer data/programs from old. Removed new acct in maiden name. Doesn't show under User Accts only old one does. Now I need to get rid of the old email address. Can't delete so tried to set up new email address as alias. Somehow must have stored new address because it says it is already in use. I have been working for days to change all my device names to get rid of the previous married name. Now I've run into this on this laptop. How can I remove my current email address with my new name from Microsoft so I can use it as the alias? This is just a plain stupid way to handle things. People move from jobs, etc, and have a need to change email addresses. It should be a simple process. Help!!!!!!
